A ganglion cyst usually presents as a skin cyst.
Microscopic examination
It typically shows walls composed of bland fibrous tissue.
Look for signs of major differential diagnoses:
- The lining may look similar to a simple squamous epithelium, but if there is clearly an epithelial lining, classify as another kind of skin cyst.
- Look for fibrinoid necrosis, macrophages and lymphocytes, which may indicate a rheumatoid nodule.
Microscopy report
It may simply be reported as such, example:
